Ryan Little Goose.

Just wanted to put some inspirational photos up of Ryan Gosling to class up our website.  I mean look at this fucking guy.  What if you woke up in the morning and looked half as good as he does?  Yeah your life would be different, wouldn’t it be?  Do yourself a kindness and go to your local video store, find the Ryan Gosling section and pick up the Notebook or Half Nelson.  I myself celebrate his entire catalogue.  Nuff said.  I’ll be seein’ ya.

Middle Brother, Fred Savage, May Day, & America!

Not sure where to start with this one.  Let’s get the craziness out of the way.  Obama killed Osama.  Which is a thing that needed to happen because he created the worst attack on American soil to date.  Don’t get me wrong I’m happy the guy is dead but it’s hard to celebrate the death of anyone, even of man that was so evil.  In my book two wrongs don’t make a right.  But if I was one of the families that lost someone I’d want revenge in a big way.  It’s all just such a bad situation.  Politics make my head spin.

On a lighter note, I found that someone took the time to post most of the Wonder Years series on youtube!  Some of the parts have disabled audio because there are some copyright nazis out there but you can watch like 92% of the episodes right now.  TWY first couple seasons are on Netflix but you click them and it says unavailable because the show has been sorting out all these legal problems with the music they used.  All I know is that they need to sort it out soon, but in the meantime go to youtube and be brought back to your childhood with the Arnold family, Paul, and Winnie.  Such a brilliant show.

My buddy Trapper and Mitch turned 21 on May 1st and we played a show at Linnemans celebrating the occasion.  The show was great and the boys had such a crazy weekend but I couldn’t be part of the festivities because I came down with the flu.  Can’t win em all.  The bars in Milwaukee will be a little more interesting with Trapp and Mitch milling about.

That Middle Brother record has been ruling my life over the last couple months.  If you’re reading this and don’t have it buy it right now for god’s sake.  It’ll hopefully change your life like it has mine.  The band is basically a super group made up from the singers of Deertick, Delta Spirit, & Dawes.  The production is a bit gritty sounding but so clean at the same time.  A very nice balance of different sounding tunes for a beautiful diverse package.  The melody’s and lyrics are so great that it seems like everything just came together effortlessly and natural.  Can’t wait to see these guys out on the road.  Heard through the grapevine that they came to Madison at the beginning of the year.   Won’t miss them the next time.  Gotta get some sleep.

Dog speed.

Record Store Day, Basketball, and Go The Brewers!

Hey buddies…So baseball season is here and I couldn’t be more excited.  For me whenever you see those first couple televised games I always start thinking about BBQing, cut off jean shorts and flip flops, going to the beach, and hanging out on some random patio.  Us Midwesterners have had a long winter and it’s about gol’ damn time for us to have some nice weather too.

Today marked the first day of outside basketball for my work buddies and I.  Until school let out and our court was bombarded by a shit storm of 16 year old wanna be thugs.  We did get about 3 games in though.  Note to self: show up to play a bit earlier.  By the end of the season we’re all going to be playing like Jimmer in the picture above.

This weekend April 16th is the annual Record Store Day.  The Exclusive Company on Farwell Ave. will host some bands including Maritime and Trapper Schoepp & the Shades.  My buddy Andrew and I are going to be having a few give a ways and we’re getting some pizza for everyone courtesy of Good Land Records!  Who doesn’t like free stuff and pizza?!  Crazy people that’s who.

We’ll be seein’ ya.

Rock Island, Illinois & Eudora, Kansas

These pics are thanks to Patrick Carrie.  The one of me sitting and Robb with the Jazzmaster is from when we did a live full-length cd at the Daytrotter studio because we couldn’t afford to buy cd’s from our record label.  It was a loop hole if you will.  The record was 13 tracks entitled “The Delicacy Of Living Modestly.”  That time was a bit of a dark time for me but seeing my buddies and making music helped me plow through it.

The collage is what Patrick pieced together when we were recording our s/t record in Kansas.  That pic made it in Alternative Press magazine for the in the studio section.  Johnny from Daytrotter made the drawing based on the collage.  Funny thing is that the only pic in the collage not taken in Kansas is of me throwing up the piece sign.  That was in Australia on the coast.  Now I’m rambling, g’night.

Travelin’, the high desert & feelings of nostalgia…

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about my buddies in the Limbeck Band and all the great times we’ve had together.  In particular two trips are standing out in my mind that make me proud of being in that band.  The first in the timeline is when we went to the Joshua Tree National Park and took photos with some Joshua Trees for our self-titled record with the bear on the cover.  It’s a really beautiful drive on the way there.   You go past Palm Springs and all those crazy wind mills.  When you get there the sight of everything around you pretty much takes your breath away and leaves you speechless at first.  At least for me it did.  Maybe I was too busy thinking about the times that Gram Parsons and Keith Richards had there taking crazy drugs and looking for aliens decades earlier.  When we got there we only had about 2 hours of sunlight left so we ran around like little kids and took a bunch of photos with the bear you see above.  When the sun went down it got super cold because you’re about 3,000 ft up in elevation.  So we started a campfire, roasted marshmallows and took more photos around the fire wearing fake beards, shirtless, with jackets, trading the bear suit around, it was a great time.  I took a flight home the next day and I was super bummed because Joshua Tree is literally one of my favorite places I’ve been in my life.

The second story is damn near 2 years later.  We did a couple random shows for a weekend that I flew in for and the first of the three was at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown, CA.  Which is about 20 mins from Joshua Tree.  The bar’s been around for decades and every once in awhile a famous guest will show up out of no where and just jam for example like Robert Plant.  The town is unincorporated and was made in the 1940’s as a movie set for westerns to be filmed and the movie stars would live there while they shot.  The infamous Pioneertown Motel is in the parking lot of P & H’s so when you’re done playing and drinking till you got your fill ya just stumble over to your room.  We showed up early in the day so we got to explore a bit on Main St. and have some beers outside on the patio.  I actually got to hand feed ponies that day and enjoy P & H’s homemade chili which is to die for.  The show was only us on the bill so we played every song we knew pretty much and some of our friends showed up as well as some locals who stuck around after dinner.  When you play they open these huge windows behind you so you feel like you’re performing outside underneath the desert sky.  One of the the most beautiful feelings ever.  After our set we got a case of beer from the bar and drank outside with our friends that came into town and it felt like we were in a western movie.  Then the next day we picked up the pieces and went to Arizona.  It was weird, when we pulled out of town our van died.  All the electronics turned off and everything.  Patrick waited a couple minutes and then turned the key and it started right back up.  Kind of freaky but I’m sure stranger things have happened in that desert.  Roy Rogers and Gene Autry used to live there for Christ sake, just imagine.

Rallys in Madison and Winning…

Here’s my buddy Jordan in Madison doin’ his part for us good people.  Good man, good sign.

How crazy insane is Charlie Sheen?  I’m still digging it even though some people are getting pretty burnt out on everything he has to say.  Dudes on a roll and I think we shouldn’t stop him while the irons still hot.  Hope you all have seen the video where he calls himself a “bi-winner” cause it’s full of solid gold.

Everybody keep an eye out for Tim’s LP because we have them in stock now!!!!  Looks like everyone at Good Land here is in for some winning of our own.  Bring it.

Oh hai great photo…

This is going to be a new section I will have in our blog that are basically great pictures you need to see that will hopefully bring sunshine to your day.

This is my friend Claudia, she’s a great American.  Clearly.

My desktop photo is of Lemmy and I had a face time chat with my good buddy Ben and his head perfectly aligned with Lemmys body.  Folks, you can’t plan out magic like this, it just happens out of thin air.  That’s Mad Men in the top left corner.  Also, notice Bemmys beverage spread.  Big ass bottle of Jack, pint glass mixer of Jack & Coke, big water, bottle of vodka, and a 20 oz. of Coke.  Good to go.

Football, the Grammys, & Lemmy.

Been awhile since I’ve posted anything on here.  First off, I haven’t been feeling very inspired lately because I’ve just been busy with football wrapping up, a blizzard, working when I can, and joining Trappers band.  There’s so much to mention and I don’t want to forget any important details.  In joining Trappers band we played 6 shows in 2 weeks which brought us to Minnesota and various cities in Wisconsin.  The shows went great and we have some serious long lasting friendships building in the band and of course outside of it.  We’ve been playing a bunch of new songs live that we will be recording at the beginning of summer for a new record on Good Land which we couldn’t be more excited about.  Also, I’ve been singing backing vox for the first time and they seem to be working out which shocks the hell out of me.

This blizzard mentioned earlier was one of the craziest I’ve ever been in.  Guess we were 2 inches shy of tying the great blizzard of Milwaukee in 1947.  The whole city pretty much shut down except for my work which is kind of silly.  No snow day for me.  That weekend was Super Bowl XLV that the Packers won obviously because this post is so after the fact.  It feels great to be World Champs again and to have the Lombardi trophy come back to Wisconsin where it belongs!  Hopefully NFL football happens next year on schedule due to all this craziness the owners are trying to pull.  To make light of the situation the boys and I had a Tecmo Bowl tournament tonight at Trappers and it was a knock down drag out war!  It was so much fun that we’re going to make it a bi-weekly event.

How fucking god awful were the Grammys?  The only thing that saved it for me was that performance with Mumford, Avett Bros, and Dylan.  That was seriously badass!  Too bad the rest of it was pretty much unwatchable.  Kinda cool the Black Keys got some wins though.  Still think Justin Bieber should’ve won best new artist instead of whats her name?   The whole thing is bullshit anyways, whatever.

I’m going to see some cool shows coming up.  Tomorrow’s Motorhead, this weekend’s the Paul Collins Beat, next Friday’s Ben Kweller and March 3rd in Chicago is the Pogues at the Congress Theatre!  If you haven’t seen the movie Lemmy do yourself a favor and watch it right now.  The guy is so genuine and he’s a rock n roll hero.

Thanks for reading if you got this far.
