May Have Come from Business But…
Don’t you hate being lied too? My family has made it their religion. “sure andrew, your endeavors matter to us. You’ll always have our support!” what a load of crap! Hope you guys and girls out there will give me a minute to vent… My family has always been a business bunch, but they inherited it. And they are oblivious to what it takes to start something new and great. Thank you so much for all your Good Land Support! We’ll teach the old dogs a lesson in success by making 2011 the best year for aspiring artists! Love you all
Andrew (aka Rooster Cartwrite) hehehaha
Day after Christmas party.
The day after Xmas Mike, Matt and I played a little unplugged surprise birthday show at the Village Pub in Shorewood for their friend Jay. He’s a dude that used to live up in Grafton with all the rest of us but he now resides in Nashville. Him and his wife are super nice people and so were the rest of their buddies and family members that came for the surprise. The Village Pub is one of the only bars besides the Polish Falcon who does carry out beers after 9pm. Thank god for those 2 watering holes when you’re in a pinch. The 3 of us are working on doing a couple more shows before Matt leaves for South Carolina so keep your eyes pealed for those. Go Bucks!
Just another day with the Midwest winter
It’s chili, but not like the food. It’s super cold but thank the lord we’re resilient enough to laugh at it. My car had snow on it this morning but who cares?! The holidays are over but we at Good Land Records feel like the best is yet to come! All you artists out there, we encourage you to send us some music for consideration to the label. Attach a song or two to an email for me and Jonny. We’re always interested in somethin’ new and awesome! Happy New Year
On A Good Movie Run Lately.
Christmas day night I had the pleasure of seeing the new Coen Bros 2nd adaptation of Charles Portis’ 1968 novel True Grit. It completely floored me from start to finish. The young 14 old girl by the name of Hailee Steinfeld nails her first staring roll and almost single handedly steals the show. Everything with the movie is a good fit down to the subtle score, supporting characters and Deadwood type feel. But without all the curse words. Anyone that remotely enjoys the Coen Bros work or a good western will love this film.
Today I also went to the Oriental Theatre to see the psychological thriller Black Swan which is director Darren Aronofsky’s companion piece to 2008’s The Wrestler. Both films are similar due to the main characters personal lives being plagued by their respective art. It’s great how haunting certain parts of the film are that will give you chills. But then the next minute the scene will have you aroused. Yes, there is a gratuitous sex scene between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis that is a nice addition. Next to Blue Valentine this movie will also go on my favorite of the year list because of how incredible and moving Portman is. My sister even liked it and she’s one of the toughest critics out there. Go see what all the fuss is about.
Merry Christmas from everyone at Good Land.
So here I am at my dad’s house on this beautiful xmas day. Just opened presents and now were watching The Christmas Story. My dad gave me a Vinyl MP3 converter/player today! Score! Tomorrow I’m playing a little show at the Village Pub in shorewood with Mike Meske from Flame Shark and Matt Schuster from Skylight Radio. Should be some Christmas fun! Go listen to “fairytale of New York” by the the Pogues because it’s the best christmas song ever. Hope everyone has a safe holiday!
